The place and status of religion in Israeli legal system has been the subject of public controversy, leading to emotional outbursts and fervent debate. This book deals with one of the most important the parts of this controversy: Provision of religious services. The subject is strewn with difficulties, legal and extra-legal. The provisions of law relating to religion in Israel are not governed by any general scheme.
הספר עוסק באחת הסוגיות המהותיות ביחסי דת ומדינה בישראל: אספקת שירותי הדת. המחבר, אלירם אלגרבלי, סוקר בתמציתיות את ההיבטים השונים במארג היחסים שבין השלטון המרכזי לשלטון המקומי, בוחן את התמורות והשינויים המתחוללים בשנים האחרונות ברשויות המקומיות, סוקר בהרחבה את שורת הרפורמות שהוצעו ב-20 השנים האחרונות לאספקת שירותי הדת בישראל על יתרונותיהן וחסרונותיהן, מנתח את עיקרי השיטה לאספקת שירותי דת הנהוגה בגרמניה וארה"ב, תוך בחינה של הקהילות היהודיות בארה"ב ודרכי התמודדותן עם שיטה זו, ומנסה למצוא את "דרך המלך" ליישום מודל בו לרשויות מקומיות תוענק עצמאות בהיבטים של אספקת שירותי דת, בד בבד עם מעורבות של המדינה באספקת דת ברמה הארצית, ובשיתוף עם הקהילות.
